What We Do
Oikos-Brigg is here to support people in practical, social and spiritual ways.
Our work is shaped by our Christian faith and by the needs we see within our local community. From food support and advice to social groups, community activities and opportunities to explore faith, we aim to create a place where people feel welcomed, supported and connected.
You do not need to be Christian to access our support or take part in our activities. Many of our services and groups are open to everyone.
Food & More
Food & More is our practical food support service, helping individuals and families who may be experiencing financial hardship or food insecurity.
We provide emergency food support, affordable food through our Community Pantry and free surplus food through our Community Fridge. We also aim to look beyond the immediate need for food, helping people to access other support where appropriate.
Community & Connection
Oikos is about much more than practical support. We want to create opportunities for people to meet others, build friendships and feel part of their community.
Our community meals, social sessions, warm space and groups offer welcoming places to spend time with others, particularly for people who may be feeling isolated or looking for somewhere to belong.
Groups, Skills & Activities
Throughout the year we run a range of groups, activities and learning opportunities.
These can include Space 2 B, our neurodiverse group, cooking and life-skills activities, creative sessions, courses and other community opportunities.
Our programme develops over time in response to the interests and needs of local people.
Advice & Support
Sometimes people need support with challenges that go beyond what Oikos can provide directly.
We work alongside other organisations and local services to help people find the right advice and support. This includes regular Citizens Advice drop-in sessions and signposting to services that can help with areas such as finances, wellbeing, housing and other difficulties.
Faith & Spiritual Support
Christian faith is at the heart of Oikos and shapes the way we seek to serve our community.
We provide opportunities to pray, explore Christianity and connect with others through activities including prayer meetings, Bible Study and our Pilgrim’s Group.
Spiritual support is available for those who would like it, but there is never an expectation that someone accessing Oikos support or community activities shares our faith.
Oikos Christian Shop
Our Christian shop is part of our welcoming community space on Wrawby Street.
We stock a range of Christian books, Bibles, gifts and other items, alongside opportunities to browse, chat and spend time in the space.
The shop is open alongside many of our regular community activities.
